Step-by-step instructions will enable participants to feel more confident about measuring and cutting out their fabric, using a sewing machine, adding piping or gathering, creating easy-care fastenings with zips, buttons, press studs, ribbons or Velcro, as well as finishing off their cushions by hand. As course goers progress during the week they will also create professional-looking curtains using their chosen fabric and preferred design be that pinch pleats, tab-top or simple gathering.
Topics covered:
– Working with different fabrics
– Measuring and cutting out
– Hem styles and techniques
– Pinch pleats and gathering
– Applying heading tape
– Piping
– Zips and other fastenings
Venue:
The course is taught in a dedicated Craft Room at Le Manoir Saint Gervais. The space is beautifully designed and inspiring; participants have their own workstations and the use of various tools and equipment. Tea and coffee making facilities are available throughout the day in The Study.
This course is for beginners and experienced sewers alike. Basic sewing skills will be covered up front so that newcomers can progress quickly. If you have sewed before you will be able to choose a project of your choice and receive ongoing guidance from your tutor.
Your course tutor will contact you in advance to understand what you hope to gain from the course and also to help you choose your fabric and take measurements for your curtains and cushions.
