At the end of the workshop they will be able to take home their hand-made creations (e.g. spring bunting and bags; pretty summer aprons; autumn table runners; fabric garlands and Christmas decorations to name a few).

Step-by-step instructions will enable participants to feel more confident about measuring and cutting out their fabric, using a sewing machine, adding a zip or embellishments, as well as finishing off their garments or gifts by hand.

Topics covered:

– Seasonal trends

– Choosing fabric for the task at hand

– Seam styles and techniques

– Applying embellishments

– Bias binding

– Fillings, wadding, etc.

– Fastenings

Venue:

The course is taught in a dedicated craft workshop at Le Manoir Saint Gervais. The space is comfortable and inspiring; participants have their own workstations and the use of various tools and equipment. Tea and coffee making facilities are available throughout the day in The Study.

This course is for beginners and those with some sewing experience – the main aim of the day is to learn how to make garments and gifts in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Basic sewing skills will be covered throughout the day as you work through your project; if you have sewn before you will be able to choose a more ambitious project and receive guidance from your tutor.

Depending on the time of year, we choose projects to match the seasons or an occasion.
